The beginning. The 1999 cassette had six tracks and was sold at a concert in the Dastgoh boiler room; the band says it was unfinished and never allowed it out again. The real album is the eight-track one finished with Yerlan Abenov at Dala Sound in Almaty, 17 November 2000. "Kazan" and "Kökjal" are the dance ones. Then "Morkhan, Karañgy Ee" stops everything: no beat, only the choir and the drone. A requiem in the middle of a night out. My favourite thing ever recorded in this country.

A CD-R at a club night, 31 minutes 51. The star is Polaris, the north star, the one that doesn't move. "Jyldyzdardy Kes", "Cut the Stars in the Night", was their first single, burned for Almaty DJs.

"Black Water": named after the oily canals that run from the refinery through Nurzhan. If you grew up here you know the smell. Darker, industrial, everyone hated it then, everyone loves it now. I love it most.

Recorded at night on a Talasfilm sound stage (Askar worked there). A white stallion in fog: the old omen of someone coming home. Their first album after they came back together in Talas in 2014.

The quietest one. Lullabies and cradle blessings, written after Mira's daughter was born. Eski Ün play on it. It won the Altyn-Zhylky in 2023. I listen to it when I can't sleep, which is often.
They are on Yandex Music, Spotify and the rest through Köch Audio. The covers here are my drawings, not the real covers (copyright, and also I like mine).
